If you’re anything like me, greeting cards are so full of flowers and other embellishments that they end up requiring special envelopes and extra postage. The August Cards, Tags and More Kit comes with a 6 x 6 paper pack and a matching pack of images to cut from Paper Heaven, along with flowers and chipboard pieces. I decided to put those embellishments to the side for another project and simply use the paper packs and a few glue dots and foam tape to create some cards that are more “mailable”.
Here’s what I came up with. And here’s how I created each card… (I cut sheets of white cardstock down to 8 x 6 inches and folded them in the centers to create 4 x 6 bases.) Note: I inked all the edges of the layers, die cuts and fussy cut images.
I selected two sheets with patterns and cut out a doily with the die from last month’s kit from the center of the green layer. (This is a good way to stretch your supplies: use the areas that will be hidden to create die cuts, extra layers, etc.) I inked the edges and glued the layers down with Fabri-Tac glue. Next, I selected two of the fussy cut pieces and adhered them with pop dots and foam tape.
How’s this for easy: I cut out a sentiment, again from the bottom layer, this time with a die from the March Cards kit. I glued the papers down, adhered a butterfly cutout and ran the sentiment through my Xyron and placed it on the card. (That Xyron machine is awfully handy for working with small die cuts, but you can always lightly glue your small embellishments using a needle-tip applicator.)
Here’s another birthday card, this time using a stamp from my stash. I cut the paper so that the floral print would be on top. I added two die cut layers, after stamping the top one and finished the card with some fussy cut flowers and leaves and a beautiful butterfly, given a bit of dimension with foam tape.
To create this card, I dusted off an old Nestablities die and created several ascending layers that I topped off with one of the silver dragonflies from the kit.
I’ve used three layers of paper on this card, with the very busy pattern on the bottom. I’ve embellished it with more of the cutouts, using foam tape on the flowers and leaves.
Again, I cut a sheet so that the floral pattern is on top. I’ve embellished it with three postage stamp die cuts using scraps. The center piece, with the floral pattern, can stand alone; I’ve added some fussy cut blooms to the other two and finished the card by placing a butterfly in the corner.
