Beyond the Mist

 

This photo taken by my son last May up in the Lake George, NY area is so spectacular that I wanted to keep this layout pretty simple. The Paper Heaven papers that come in the Tres Jolie September Kit, with the subtle colors and prints are perfect for this purpose.

I began with a gorgeous new chipboard piece from Tres Jolie. I decided to let it blend in with the mossy rocks, so I simply colored it with Distress Oxide ink in Forest Moss, using a blending tool to “pounce” on several layers until I was satisfied with the colors.

The edges of photo and the matting piece below were inked with Distress ink, again in Forest Moss before being backed with packaging and glued down. (I used the same ink to edge the other paper elements.)

Kim included a few Lemon Craft papers; I fussy cut some leaves and used part of another sheet for one of the banner strips.

A few flowers from the kit and one of those gorgeous Prima butterflies were all I needed to complete my project.

Tag: Dreamer of Dreams

 

I’m participating in a tag swap at Scrapbook.com; this month’s theme is “Very Valentine”. While I don’t seem to have any dedicated Valentine’s Day paper, I do have a beautifully romantic collection from Lemon Craft. Here’ what I came up with:

I did some prep work before constructing the actual tag. First, I created a few clay cherubs using modeling compound and some molds that I’ve had for several years. I also started work on a shaker piece, painting the chipboard elements and adhering an acetate circle to the underside of the main piece.

I made a tag from a piece of packaging to use as my base, cut two pieces of the House of Roses sheet to fit, inked the edges and glued them to the front and back. The top layers were created by cutting two pieces from the Sweet Secrets sheet ¼” smaller top to bottom and side to side, inking the edges and gluing them down.

I die cut a few vines from white cardstock and glued only a few small leaves down once I knew where I wanted to place them.

I placed the bottom piece of my shaker on the tag and marked the vine pieces that lay inside. After trimming those pieces, I assembled the shaker by adhering the bottom to the tag, adding the sequins and micro beads and attaching the top.

I adhered one of the cherubs to the top of the shaker, putting the others aside to wrap and send to my swap partner.

I added a few Prima flowers and a scattering of pearls.

I used scraps to create a card and a pocket to hold it on the reverse side of the tag.

I finished the tag by looping a few lengths of contrasting fibers and trims through the hole on top.
