Saturday Morning Down the Shore

 

There seems to be a bit of a beach theme in my last few postings. Pure coincidence: the materials that I’ve been working with have been perfect for the images that I’ve used. This layout, however, is different. The AB Studio Diva collection, full of pinks, purples and grays and bold patterns, cries out for equally bold and dramatic images to match. However, this photo of my grandsons has been on the top of my “must do” pile since June and I wanted to find a way to use it. I think that the “B” side of this sheet, with the distressed stone pattern in the center, fits perfectly.

 

 I’ve based this on the August sketch from Très Jolie. I like the way it features layers on layers and details such as the shapes of the chipboard embellishments that came in the kit.

I started with those chipboard pieces, coating them with black gesso and them treating them with embossing powder.

Next, I prepared my tags. First, I cut one from the “Desire” sheet (it’s filled with a nice variety of tags and flowers and clocks), punched out the hole and inked the edges. I created two more tags from stripped USPS packaging and fastened jute string to all the tops.

I created the layers under the photo with the tags and two stitched frames from the June kit. Next, I attached the chipboard keys and chains and added the flowers.

I finished my page with shells and a piece of Flair from my stash.

And that was it: a quick and easy layout featuring a lazy Saturday morning down the Jersey Shore.

Making Friends

My son caught his daughter making friends with a very shy kitten last summer and sent the image on to me. The November Market Street kit from Swirlydoos gave me the perfect opportunity to scrap this adorable photo.

For my base, I selected the Faded Bloom sheet from the 49 and Market Heirloom Botanicals collection. I love the peach shades and the pattern that is so reminiscent of the vintage wallpaper that would be found in a girl's bedroom.

A few weeks ago, DT Coordinator Kim Heard posted links to some older tutorials showing various ways to alter chipboard http://swirlydoos.blogspot.com/2016/12/saturday-altering-chipboard-tutorial.html. I chose the first technique - Rae Moses' distressed faux filigree chipboard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IL3WVGd0Wu4, using Ranger Liquid Pearls in Rose Gold and Prima Color Bloom in Storm Cloud to alter the Dusty Attic Decorative Frame #2 that came in the kit. As a finishing touch, I adhered some Darice self-adhesive pearls around the circle.

Before adhering my completed frame, I did a bit of stamping below with a script stamp and Versa Magic chalk ink in Eggplant.

My embellishments are mostly from the Main Kit and the Flower Add-On, using 49 and Market blooms and some resin flowers from Craft Consortium's Always and Forever Collection, with one of the Prima Fairy Rhymes trinkets dangling on the bottom. The lace and large flower are from my stash. I completed my cluster with Prima Art Ingredients Glass Beads in Licorice.

Enjoy the Moments Wall Hanging

This wall hanging that I made using the October Project Add-On from Swirlydoos was surprisingly quick and easy. I've made it "mine" by switching out a few of the included embellishments with items from my stash of pretties.

To start, I colored the Dusty Attic chipboard phrase with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink and put it aside to dry. (Distress Inks are water-based and take a few moments to set.)

Next came the part that I thought was going to be hard - applying the Iron Orchid Design rub-on transfer to the wood plank base - and turned out to be so easy. Despite the roughness of the surface, it attached perfectly and I was done in no time.

By now, the chipboard was ready for a coating of Wink of Stella - just enough to give it a bit of glimmer. 

And now for the fun part - the embellies! From my stash, I took a Prima vine from the Salvage District collection and cut it in half. I placed it where I thought my cluster would begin and end. I played around with flowers from the kit (more Salvage District blooms from Prima) until I got the look I wanted.

When I was satisfied, I glued it all down, starting with the chipboard phrase.

I decided to use some Kaisercraft pearls around the medallion to give my project an elegant look and to match the several Memory Hardware pearls that I placed in my flower cluster.

I finished it all off with a black resin butterfly that I've had for a long while; it matched the rustic look perfectly!!!

The World Awaits Us

This mother/daughter photo and the gorgeous Rossibelle collection by Prima are a perfect fit for this month's Swirlydoos All That Flutters Challenge.

For the most part, this page was made with the Rose Garden kit from Swirlydoos; I've added a few pieces that I've had for a while.

I'm usually not so heavy with details and embellishments, especially when using such a busy piece of pattern paper as Nostalgia for my base, but somehow I just couldn't help myself and in the end, I must admit that I like the results.

The Dusty Attic Hanging Bulbs chipboard pieces that came in the main kit were primed with black gesso. I painted the bottoms with Prima's Opal Magic acrylic paint in Rose Gold and sprinkled some Micro Beads in Blush on the bottoms. After adhering them to my page, I added some tiny bows fashioned out of the sheer ribbon trim that were also in the main package.

I matted the photo with a bit of black cardstock, then on a scrap from a previous layout and placed it on a couple of Melissa Frances' Paper Lace doilies and two more that were cut from Core'dinations cardstock in Sassy with Cheery Lynn's French Pastry die. When that was all done, I tucked in a few pieces of  Rossibelle ephemera here and there and placed a sticker from the package on the bottom of the photo for my title.

Next, I had fun with flowers - some from the Flower Add-On and others from my stash that blended in perfectly. I added some Druzy Stones and a few Cottage Cutz Leafy Vines left from my Calle D Chartres layout to my clusters.

Last are the flutterbies - cut from the same Sassy Core'dinations cardstock with two of my dies - Mini Butterflies by Cheery Lynn and Flutter of Butterflies Lace by Die-Namics - with bits of Kaisercraft pearls in the centers.
