Loving Life

Somehow, September got away from me. I managed to create a mixed media canvas and a tag album and suddenly the month was over.
I did manage to get one layout done with the September Très Jolie Main Kit for the Mood Board Challenge.

I’ve wanted to scrap this photo of my grandsons enjoying the aftermath of a heavy rainstorm for over and year and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. I decided to print it out in sepia and then to ink the edges to give it a somewhat vintage look.

I wanted to give my base a little more texture, so I started by misting it through one of my favorite stencils. This resulted in a subtle look and an unexpected bonus: a perfect scattering of drips when I lifted the stencil off the paper.

Next came the layering. I’ve used both sides of one sheet of paper torn apart into smaller pieces and some of the wonderful Ciao Bella rice paper that came in the kit. I achieved those fuzzy edges simply by cutting the paper apart with my trimmer; the sliding blade tears the fibers apart rather than giving a clean cut. In order to create dimension, I adhered USPS packaging between some of the layers as I glued them down.

The chipboard pieces were first coated with Memento ink. When that had set, I dabbed them here and there with a moist sponge dipped in some of the Lindy’s mist.

I usually don’t use a lot of flowers on masculine pages, but somehow the blooms that came in the kit seemed to fit perfectly. I added a metal piece that was left from the Mediums Kit to the side.

I finished my page by adding one of the Curio embellishments to serve as my title piece and a few clear Art Pebbles here and there…

A few more close-ups:

Vintage Saga Artist Trading Coins

I had meant to include these with the tag album featured in my last post, but they came out a little too thick to fit in the pockets…

Kim included a package of Artist Trading Coins in the September Très Jolie Cards, Tags and More Kit. Yes, that’s Coins, rather than Cards. They’re produced by Creative Embellishments: 2 ½” chipboard circles, perfect for designs on a small scale.

I cut 12 circles from the 6 x 6 paper pad that came in the kit, mostly using scraps left after I had cut the album pieces. After inking all of the edges and sorting out the front and back circles, I glued them to the coins.

I took some of the images that I had fussy cut from the Motif Sheet and a set of flourish chipboards from my stash, and played around with them until I was satisfied with the designs.

The flourishes were treated with some of the Lindy’s embossing powder that came in the kit. I actually used several layers to give them a smooth coating.

I glued all of the components together, backing bits of the cut-outs with small pieces of packaging to give them stability.
The bird card is actually made from two images with packaging in between to add some dimension.

To finish my Artist Trading Coins, I selected a few Tim Holtz word stickers that I thought matched my designs. I inked them, then glued them down and called them “finished”.

And there you go: a quick and easy project, done in no time!

Vintage Saga Tag Album

The September Cards, Tags and More kit from Très Jolie comes with a 6 x 6 pad of beautiful papers from Dress My Craft, along with a package of cut-outs and a Graphic 45 tag album.
Here’s what I came up with…

Another view…

And here’s how it came together…

Luckily, I have a die to match the tags, so the first step was easy work. I simply cut out the patterns that I wanted to form my tags and then cut the scraps for later use.

I fussy cut all of the cut-outs and inked the edges.

I cut a few pieces of kraft paper to 1-3/4” x 2-5/8” and rounded the corners; these were put aside along with the card images for later.

I inked all of the edges, then assembled the tags, adhering a die cut piece to each side.

Next, I began to create the interactive parts of my album.

I cut a strip of kraft paper to 7-1/2” to 2-1/8” and scored it a 1-7/8”, 3-3/4” and 5-5/8”.

I inked all of the edges and folds, then began to glue those pieces that I had put aside, covering both sides of my strip. I left the last part blank; I’ll be using that as the base.

I used the stamp that was included in the kit to create some texture.

I started to fill my fold-out with the cut-out cards and a few scraps that I had cut to size.

I used a few of the cut-outs to decorate the album. I need this to fold flat, so I kept the embellishments to a minimum, simply backing the images with scraps of kraft paper to add a small bit of dimension.

I glued a bit of ribbon to the back to form a tie piece, and then adhered the fold-out album to one of the “pages”, along with a cut-out image. I added a sentiment from my stash.

I selected four of the long cut scraps, cut them to 2-1/4” x 3-7/8” and rounded the bottom corners.

I cut 4 pieces of kraft paper to 2-1/8” x 4-1/4” and used my punch to round the bottom corners.

I scored the tops at 1/4”.

After inking all of the edges, I assembled the pieces, aligning the tops of the pattern paper to the folds.

I glued my top piece to my tag.

I proceeded to add the other pages, aligning the top of each fold to the bottom of the page above.

My finished waterfall tag…

I selected a few tags to decorate.

A few of the cut-outs and a resin column from the Main Kit…

An Artist Trading Coin (more about that in my next post!) backed by two of the (heavily embossed) chipboard pieces that came in the kit…

And the cover, featuring a cut-out, embossed chipboard vines from last month’s kit and flowers from this month. I cut the title from the top page from the pattern paper package.

I kept the backs of my tags pretty flat, creating pockets topped with bits of lace and filled with scraps cut to ATC size…
