Follow Your Heart: A Layout

I had a Creative Embellishments chipboard phrase left over from my last project, so why not use it (along with another copy of my photo) for Très Jolie’s February Sketch Challenge?

The Sweet Secrets collection by Lemoncraft that came in the February kit is filled with pretty pinks and soft browns. I selected the “B” side of Sheet 1 as a perfect setting.

I’m trying not only to de-stash here and there, but to use some of the tools that I’ve had for years. This La Blanche stamp (sorry, I have no idea of the title) blends in so well with the paper and romantic theme.

Once the stamping was done, I altered the chipboard pieces with Metallique Wax and put them aside, cutting the small heart from the piece that would go behind the photo.

The kit also came with a couple of sheets of images to be fussy cut and used as embellishments. I cut most of the images from #029 and a few butterflies from #030.

Time to assemble: After inking and matting my photo, I layered it between the two Heart Chain chipboards, then backed it with several layers of packaging to give it depth.

I arranged the fussy cut pieces to fan out behind the photo and glued them to another piece of packaging before adhering it all to the paper. Once the glue was set, I curled some of the corners up and tucked a few circle pieces behind.

Next came the flowers, in shades of soft pinks and browns, and a few of the SIIC pieces that also came with the kit.

I placed another small cluster to the side: a few flowers, one of the pieces of flair and the chipboard heart that I had snipped from the chain.

Heart Wreath for Valentine's Month

I’ve used this photo of my Wedding Day in 1968 several times, but this is the one image that came to mind when I opened up the February Mixed Media kit from Tres Jolie.

I started by applying the Fire Brick watercolor to my wreath, adding more and less water here and there and leaving some spots white.

While that was drying, I gave my chippie pieces several thick coats of gesso. Next, I applied the same gesso to my flower centers then dry brushed the petals.

Assembly was quick. First, I glued my framed photo to the wreath, adding strips of cardboard in back to add stability.

In order to extend my chipboard pieces, I cut them in half and placed them over and under my photo, reserving one piece for the cluster on the other side.

To finish my project, I added the “Love” resin word from the kit and a few resin butterflies that I’ve had for a while…
