A Tag Album and a Couple of Cards

The March Cards,Tags and More Kit from Tres Jolie, featuring 49 & Market’s Vintage Artistry collection and Tres Jolie’s own chipboard embellishments, is jam packed with all you need to make a Spring-themed tag album with plenty left over for quite a few cards for any occasion.

The patterns of “B” sides of the paper are more solid; I’ve cut them to fit the tags and then cut a top sheet ¼” smaller all around. I’ve also used some of the sentiments on one of the cutout sheets, backed with scraps here and there…

The chipboard frame is a piece left over from the Scrapbook Kit, adorned with die cut leaves and a butterfly from the paper pack, along with a flower from the kit. I dressed up the center from a few rub-ons from the February Kit.

The back of the first tag is decorated with a die cut butterfly and a few rub-on sentiments.

For the second tag, I decided to layer a few of the die cuts and added a rub-on sentiment.

Here’s another of the window frames from the Scrapbook Kit. Behind it, you can see a textured pattern that I created with the stencil (also from the Scrapbook Kit) and embellishment mousse.

I used the same stencil and embellishment mousse on this tag and when it had set, added a few die cut vines and another of the small flowers.

The Kit comes with a pair of chipboard flowers. I colored this one with Distress Oxide ink and then covered it all with Glossy Accents. I added a few Art Pebbles to match the shine.

For the fourth tag, I fussy cut a flower cluster from a scrap and added another scrap with a torn edge underneath. Again, I backed one of the sentiments and glued it all down.

I usually leave the back of my albums plain to avoid the wear and tear. I do want to include a closeup of the way that I’ve bound this tag album with a ring and a beautiful assortment of fibers and trims.

I also made a few greeting cards. (And I still have a lot of paper and embellishments for plenty more!)

The trim down the side is actually from one of the sheets of die cuts from the paper pack, as are the flowers and leaves. The sentiment was cut from the set of Dress My Craft dies…

And here’s an all occasion card, featuring several layers of papers and a sentiment matted with banners and trimmed with adhesive pearls.

Salvaged: A Canvas for Tres Jolie Kit Club

As soon as I opened the March Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie – filled with Lindy’s Magicals, packages of flowers and metals and an 8” round canvas board – I knew exactly what I wanted to create. I’ve added a few basic mediums and a couple of embellishments from my stash to come up with this:

And here’s how it all came together…

Cut the filmstrip chipboard in half to fit inside the circle and place the pieces along the shutter piece to get an idea of where you want them to sit.

To create background texture, apply texture paste through a stencil (I used the KaiserCraft one that came in the Scrapbook Kit).

Once dried, coat the canvas, along with the chipboard and shutter piece with black gesso.

Glue the pieces down with gel medium and allow it to set. (No gel medium? A clear glue such as Fabri-Tac will work here.)

Begin to arrange some of the metals and flowers until you’re satisfied. Don’t glue them down yet. (I like to take a photo at this point so I can remember where I put everything.)

Using gel medium, begin to adhere the metal pieces. (Don’t worry about seepage; it won’t matter in the end.)

Once the metal pieces have set, begin to glue the flowers to your piece, again allowing them to set.

Begin to fill in your layers with the remaining metals and flowers. Add some clear Art Pebbles to the centers of some of the metal pieces. (Make sure that all the adhesive is dry, and the embellishments are set before going on to the next step. I like to let it sit overnight.)

Begin to paint the embellishments with black gesso, lifting the top layers of the flowers and coating the “underneaths” as you go.

Prepare your mists: Measure 4 parts Magical powder and 1 part Gum Arabic into a mini mister and give it a shake to blend. Carefully add water until almost full. With your thumb *tightly* over the top, shake the bottle until thoroughly blended. Screw on the top and you’re ready to go. (I like to mix the ingredients before attaching the mister so none of the powder clumps and clogs the nozzle.)

Spay the entire surface with the Antique Gold mist, being sure to coat those “underneaths” and thoroughly dry with your heat tool. You’ll need 2 – 3 bottles full for this step. (That’s my DIY splat box: a couple of USPS boxes and layers of newspaper…)

Spray your canvas here and there with the Cathedral Pines Green, using the entire bottle. Again, use your heat tool to dry thoroughly.

Your project should look somewhat like this: gold with green highlights.

Create one more layer of color with the Guten Tag Teal, this time creating pools of color by heavily spraying a few spots rather than the entire surface.

Allow this layer to air dry.

Use the remaining Antique Gold to paint the flower centers and Art Pebble domes. Brush some mist along the edges of the Quote Chip and glue it to the top of the shutter piece to complete your project.
