Swirlydoos' July
2017 "Sprocket" Kit and Add-Ons, featuring the entire Words Live
Forever collection from Scrapberry's (a fussy cutter's dream, perfect for guy
AND girl pages) is jam-packed with both gorgeous and grungy mediums and
embellishments. For me, the highlight of the Main Kit is always an original
sketch created by Swirlydoos Design Team Coordinator Kim Heard.
Here is this
month's sketch.
And my layout,
featuring a photo from 2011 that popped up on my Facebook "On This
Day" Board a few weeks ago.
I thought that
the Tonite On Broadway sheet, with the beautiful border images, would make a
perfect base for my layout. I knew that I was going to do a lot of layering, so
I created the swirls with a lot of dimension by using a mixture of the DecoArt
Crackle Paste and Nuvo Crystal Gel (basically a puffy paint) for the stenciled
pattern and drying with my heat tool until bubbles formed. Next, I added a few
of the rub-ons from the Embellishment Kit here and there around the page. The
matting layers are cut from several of the papers - 7th Street Library, Memos
and Postcards for Pennies. And now for the embellishments - snips of the
zipper, bits of the gears chippies (treated with glitter), some pretty blooms
and a few clocks that I coated with Crackle Medium and dusted with Artisan
Powder.

The first day of
vacation at the Jersey Shore wasn't the best - not only was it cool and cloudy,
but the surf was just too rough for a pair of three-year-olds. My son caught
this image of the boys wading on the edge of the water on his phone.
First, I cut a
10-1/2" square from the center of the Memo Sheet and put it aside for
later use. The remaining border was adhered to a 11-3/4" square of
packaging to give it stability. Next, I trimmed the Moments sheet to
11-1/2" square and ran all four sides through the Distrezz-It-All before
taping it to the base. I did some stenciling with the Crackle Paste from the
Mediums Add-On and allowed it to air dry. The photo was matted with some of the
Memo paper, with a bit of 7th Street Library down the side. I cut the title
from the Records sheet and adhered the pieces to the photo. A sticker from the
7 Gypsies Architextures and that gorgeous Prima vine and I was done!

I just love the
grungier elements of this kit; so perfect for boy layouts like this one
featuring Nick all cool in his shades!
I gave the edges
of the Moments sheet a good workout with my Distrezz before adhering it to a
piece of cardstock. Next, I selected a few of the chippies from the kit and
altered them with the Inka Gold from the Mediums Add-On. The layers of matting,
as well as the photo, were distressed then layered and glued to the page. I
dusted off one of my hexagon punches and cut out a few shapes from more scraps.
These were adhered to the page using thick foam tape to give them a lot of
dimension. I used one of the cutouts from the Postcards for Pennies paper to
place the date and the title next to my photo, then placed the large corner
chippie down the side. A scattering of gears and a few brads on some of the
hexagons and some splatters completed this page.

Can you believe?
This wonderful Swirlydoos Kit lends itself perfectly to beach layouts; here's
Mr. V. enjoying a burial in the sand.
I decided to add
a bit of texture to the Stopwatches "B" side base with Crackle Paste
and a stencil before gluing down some torn strips of pattern paper. (I'm being
economical here - those are thin strips of the New York Headlines "B"
side - just enough to border the Postcards for Pennies sheet.) The photo is
matted with some torn scraps, with thin chipboard layers in between. Next, I
painted some texture paste on each side of the bottom of the photo and
immediately sprinkled Mini Art Stones on top. I added some drywall tape around
the sides, then shells from my stash and a few flowers, using matte gel to make
sure that the heavy shells would stay glued down.

The Sprocket
Project Add-On is just amazing - full of so many goodies - chippies and chains
and flowers and a long, long roll of chicken wire! But that's not the best
part; the main feature is a lantern from Darice that's just begging to be
altered and filled with whatever the imagination desires. And my imagination
decided to make a fairy garden, full of lights and flowers and of course,
fairies.
