Joy

The Bold and Beautiful collection from 49 and Market is filled with pinks and grays and just enough small touches of red to make a perfect background for this photo of my granddaughter, taken by my daughter-in-law last November.
The design itself was inspired by the sketch by Kim Heard that was included in the June kit from Très Jolie.

I began by adhering the photo to a piece of packaging to give it dimension and stability. I inked the edges and then set it aside while I worked on the background layers.
I was reminded by the details of the sketch that I still had some vintage post cards and sheet music that I bought during an afternoon of antique shopping in Michigan with a couple of friends back in 2014. (Yes, I do hoard scrapbooking supplies, and yes, it certainly pays off once in a while!) While I was digging through the bin, I discovered the remains of a package of ephemera that would go perfectly with the rest of my page. I added a laser cut shape from 49 and Market (torn in half to stretch it out) and arranged and glued it onto another piece of packaging and then onto my paper.
Before adding the photo, I wrapped and tied it with a length of thin twine.

I wanted a few of my flowers to match the dress in the photo, so I gave one of the small pieces a few sprays of Color Bloom mist and allowed it to dry; it was a perfect match… Meanwhile, I selected a few more flowers and arranged them until I was satisfied and glued the larger pair down. I colored the remaining small blooms and added them after they dried.

Kim included a yard of the most gorgeous lace in the kit. I trimmed off a small amount off and cut it into several pieces that I used to tuck in around the flower clusters. Lastly, I added a wood clock to the side.

The top corner was embellished with a few layers of the laser cut images from the Shapes collection.

<image>m Creative Embellishments, altered with Color Bloom mist, seems to perfectly capture the feeling of the photo – pure joy!

Breathe

Another layout using the gorgeous Bold and Beautiful collection by 49 and Market…

The “Whispers” paper, with the subtle grays and the beautiful floral print on the bottom, makes a perfect background for this photo of my granddaughter in a rare pensive mood.

As I was cutting pieces of the “Love Shadows” paper, my eyes kept on returning to the floral print on the bottom of the B side. I decided to give in to temptation and fussy cut those images and use them to embellish my page.
So… in the end, I’ve ended up with a very simple layout, with layers of matting enhanced with cut out flowers, along with bits and pieces from the laser cut shapes, also from the collection.

Do What Makes You Happy

I love the Bold and Beautiful collection from 49 and Market that came in the June Très Jolie kit; it’s filled with soft grays and pinks and lavenders, perfect for a variety of styles.
I chose to use “The Lovely” to scrap these photos taken by my daughter-in-law last December.

We’ve had a series of late winters here in the Northeast. Last year’s hunt for a Christmas tree was done in lightweight jackets and rubber boots, rather than the usual cold weather gear. The kids found a puddle that begged to be jumped into.
These shots of Sophia are so filled with joy that I just had to scrap them…

I decided to borrow a few things from the June Cards, Tags and More kit, starting with a stamp and ink to create a little more texture around the page. I think these images blended in perfectly with the overall design of the paper.

I also borrowed the stencil to create even more texture with the chalk ink that came in the main kit.

I used another sheet of paper to cut out matting for my pictures and glued them to bits of chipboard, then to the photos. I added another layer of chipboard under each piece and then glued them to a strip of packaging to add even more dimension.

Once the photos were adhered to the paper, I started adding some of the beautiful 49 and Market flowers that came in the kit.

To celebrate the first anniversary of the Très Jolie Kit Club, Kim added a surprise bonus to our kits: a pad from Lemon Craft, filled with green patterned papers to die cut and punch and a lot of leafy images to cut out by hand. I’ve used several of these leaves and vines to embellish my flower clusters.

I’ve place a few of the laser cut shapes to fill in the “holes” around the photos.

Another “borrowing” – this time from the Mixed Media kit – using a few of the mini roses to match my purple flower and those awesome yellow boots…

And to finish it off – a polymer bird by Scrapberry’s and the title: part of the beautiful chipboard set by 49 and Market.

Butterfly Lamppost

When I opened my July kit from Très Jolie, I immediately spied a large, long box on the side of the package. Curious, I held off going through the papers from the Main Kit, which is my usual habit, and instead tore that box open. And what a wonderful surprise: Kim had sent us a metal lamppost measuring just under 12 inches, all ready to be altered and decorated, along with plenty of mediums and embellishments to do the job. I decided right then and there that this would be my first project.

Here’s what I came up with…

And here’s how I put it all together…

After carefully removing the glass panes, I coated all but the base and hooks with the texture paste, making sure that the surfaces were completely covered. I let this set overnight. This resulted in a wonderfully gritty finish.

Using a stipple brush, I applied the wax in varied amounts as I went along to create a mixed appearance. Again, I let it set overnight.

Meanwhile, I took one of the polymer pieces from the main kit and used a few markers to color the flowers and basket.

The rest of my project came together very quickly. I adhered the moss to the base with gel medium and took it outside to give it a good coat of fixative so the moss would stay put. (I like the one by Krylon; it does the job without leaving any residue. It does contain fumes; that’s why I do this outside.)
I started to twist the light string around the bottom of the post; once I reached the top, I twisted the remainder into a small circle with the switch on top and placed it inside the lantern.

The polymer bench was glued to the moss and the post; a few of the mini roses were placed here and there.

To finish my project, I scattered those beautiful butterflies up and down the lamppost.
