Blowing in the Wind

I mentioned in my last post how the In the Past collection from AB Studios was perfect for masculine layouts. I find that it’s just as perfect for this photo of my granddaughter taken early in April when the trees were full of blossoms.

Again, I used Très Jolie’s June sketch, this time flipping it 180°.

I began by cutting an 8” square from the center of the bottom sheet; I would only need the edges to show. After trimming the top layer to a 11 ½” square, I taped it to a piece of packaging and adhered it to the base sheet.

I fashioned three long double layered tags from scraps and the beautiful music cardstock from the kit and tied them with ribbon from my stash.

Once they were layered and glued to my page, I added some of the crochet lace that came in the kit.

I glued one of the stitched frames to my photo and another to a scrap of patterned paper and layered them on top of the tags.

I used the gilding paste that came in the Mixed Media kit to color the Music chippie and glued it down. I just love the flow of this piece.

I embellished the arrangement with flowers from my stash and leaves punched from the music cardstock.

I finished my page with a title made with a label maker.

Tell Your Story OTP Project for Swirlydoos

My first project with the beautiful "Love Letters" kit from Swirlydoos Kit Club is made with one of the P. S. I Love You papers from Kaisercraft, an inexpensive frame that I've had for a long time, and paper clay!

While I had my IOD Moulds out for some fun with Ice Resin (you HAVE to check out some of Kim's videos on You Tube - they give you the complete low-down on this amazing stuff here and here), I decided to create some more embellishments with paper clay. I like the results - when completely dry, they are light weight with a surface that is perfect for adhering any ink or paint that you can wish to use.

I glued my pieces to a 5" x 7" wood frame, using matte gel medium and let it set for a few hours. (Gel medium actually dries in a matter of minutes, but I wanted to ensure that they were securely bonded.

The entire surface was covered with a coat of black gesso, making sure that all of the cracks and undersides were coated. Again, this takes only a few minutes to dry, but I let it sit for a few hours before using a fan brush to lightly coat the entire frame with silver metallic paint, leaving a lot of small spaces black to give it all a look of depth.

Next, I took the Ornate Frames from Kaisercraft's P.S. I Love You collection, carefully cut out the center with my craft knife and put the outside frame aside for another project. I fussy cut the design from the paper and cut part of the remainder to fit the backing. The image was a bit too large to fit, so I trimmed it a bit and tucked the excess parts, along with a bit of Prima's Salvage District ephemera from an earlier kit, in back. As embellishments, I used a butterfly that I also cut from the paper, a few lines of tiny text, a bit of Prima bling, also from my stash and a silver heart sticker from this month's kit.

I dug into my bin of flowers and came up with these beautiful Petaloo Botanica blooms and leaves that blend perfectly with the pretty colors of the paper. To finish it all off, I added a double twine bow.

Sun Kissed

For all of its muted elegance, the Tranquility collection from Blue Fern Studios that came in the August Swirlydoos kit works well with photos of my grandchildren at the Jersey Shore last month.

I wanted the lace patterns down the sides of my paper (the Contentment sheet) to show, so I kept my design pretty simple. I cut some pieces from the Stillness sheet into varied sizes and heavily distressed all sides but one; I decided to use my EK Success Swiss Cheese punch to create some interest.

Once my pieces were assembled, I attached my photo and adhered it a bit askew to my base, using a Petaloo doily from the July kit as a background.

I've embellished it all with BFS flowers from the Main Kit and more BFS flowers, as well as some Petaloo blooms from the Flower Add-On. As a final touch, I added a bit of bling from the Embellishment Add-On and topped it all off with that sweet cherub - part of an incredible RAK from Rae Moses.
