Snapshots

I was inspired by the February Sketch Challenge to create this layout, featuring my father’s younger sister taken around 1942.

And here is the sketch…

This came together very quickly. I used several cutouts from the Vintage Artistry laser cut sheet to frame the photos and a lot of rub ons to create the texture images all around. I added just about an entire package of Garden Blooms as embellishments and I finished my piece with a title cut from the UPC strip that was on the bottom of the patterned paper sheet.

A few closeups:

LOVE Home Decor for Tres Jolie Kits

Tres Jolie’s Mixed Media Kit for February comes with a project that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day: a standing frame that’s exclusive to Tres Jolie, along with a package of glittery flowers and a wonderful variety of mediums. I added a few things of my own and came up with this…

I started by attaching the frame to the base and giving the entire piece a good coating of brown acrylic paint from my stash. Once the paint was dry, I applied the Crackle Medium from the kit to the main piece and let it set for a few hours. And now for the magic: a thin coating of the Baby Pink acrylic paint, spread in one direction… You can actually see the cracks appear as you go along!

The kit came with several bottles of the new Alcohol Alloy Ink from Ranger. I selected the Gilded ink and applied it directly to the flourishes and butterflies.

Time to embellish… I had used several blooms from the flower package on another project, but I still had plenty to spread around. I added some pearls here and there; the cream, rose and gold colors blend in beautifully.

I finished by using the very last scrap of seam binding left from the Cards, Tags and More project to tie on a metal heart that I’ve had for years, just waiting to a chance to shine…
