Tresor Canvas

The April Mixed Media package from the Tres Jolie Kit Club included three sheets of Finnabair’s new tissue paper as well as some of her new texture pastes, along with a 4” x 12” canvas, a tube of black gesso and a large resin frame. I included part of a RAK that I won with the February Sketch Challenge and a few items from the Main Kit and came up with this…

And here’s how I put it all together…

I started by laying a sheet of the tissue paper over my canvas and playing around with it until I found the section that I wanted to use. Starting with a small section on the bottom, I applied a coat of gel medium to the canvas and then adhered the paper. I then covered the rest of my surface, a little at a time to ensure that the tissue went on smoothly.

While the edges were still moist, I gently tore the unglued paper away.

Next, I applied a thick coat of medium to all of the surfaces. Not only will this protect my project, but it will allow me to quickly wipe off any “oops” moments as I go along…
I used my heat tool to completely dry the canvas.

Using the chalk edger that came in the Main Kit, I outlined the border all around. These edgers are very “juicy”, so I let this sit for a few hours until the ink was dry.

I took out one of my favorite stencils and used Graphite texture paste to add several areas of interest to my canvas. I just love how this dries to a glittery surface…

The resin frame was adhered to the canvas with gel medium. The adhesive properties of this product are amazing…

I added a couple of bottle caps and metal flowers from my stash around the frame.
The resin butterfly (part of the RAK that I mentioned) is fairly heavy, so I used Art Glitter glue to make sure that it was secure.

There’s nothing like Art Stones to create texture. Again using gel medium, I filled the bottle caps and scattered them around the flowers and the butterfly. I added a Memory Hardware pearl to the center of the metal flower.

Before “painting” my pieces, I used a few scraps of paper to cover the surfaces near the frame.

I used an old paint brush to apply a thick coating of the Moss Texture Paste and allowed it to air dry thoroughly. (I didn’t bother with a few bare spots, knowing that they would be covered later on.)

Using the same brush, I lightly went over the entire surface with the Cool Grey Texture Paste.

Once everything was completely dry, I used a fan brush to create highlights with the Cream Texture Paste.

Meanwhile, I cut a chipboard vine into three pieces, coated both sides with the chalk edger and put it aside to dry.

Next, I used a stipple brush and my finger to apply Opal Magic wax around the sides and on top of the raised edges. I also spread the wax here and there around the edges of my canvas. Lastly, I added my vine pieces around the butterfly.

I poured a small amount of black gesso out onto my craft mat and thinned it with water. Using a fan brush, I created splats and splatters all over the surface.

To finish my project, I used gel medium to attach one of the cloches that came in the Main Kit to the center of my butterfly.

A few closeups...

Dreamer

The Life Stories paper collection by Mintay that came in the March Tres Jolie Kit provides the perfect opportunity to scrap this photo of my paternal grandmother that was probably taken in the mid to late 1930’s.

I just love the paper – Sheet 1 – that I’ve used for the base of my layout. The vintage colors are perfect and the details are amazing: flowers and clocks and old bulbs and rusty hinges and best of all, that wonderful doily image that makes a perfect bit of matting.
Sheet 9 is a fussy cutter’s dream, full of flowers and vintage ephemera. I chose several floral clusters, as well as a mailbox and a canning jar to use as embellishments.

I used a bit of the Prima paper to mat my photo, placing a small piece of thin chipboard between the layers to create a little dimension. After adhering this to my base, I started to add the cutout flowers in layers down the side and across the bottom.

Next, I selected some of the beautiful blooms that came in the kit to place on top.

Once they were glued down, I tucked in a resin coin and some of the gorgeous vintage lace that Kim included in the package.

A few more of the cutouts – a rusty mailbox on the side and a hanging jar in the top corner – were added.

To finish my page, I selected an ephemera card to tuck under my embellishments. (And yes, that's where I got the title for my page!)

Charming

This page, featuring an image of my granddaughter from last July (all credit goes to my daughter-law and her wonderful photography skills) is the last of the projects that I created with the February Kit from Tres Jolie.

********************

To recapture the look of the photo, I started by cutting the More Roses Please paper into strips of varied widths that I roughed up the edges with a Distrezz-It-All and adhered to my base. Next, I used a blending tool and a stencil to create a “screen” under my photo.

The chipboard piece was given a thick coat of gesso and immediately covered with embossing and heated (a trick I learned from Rae Moses). When the powder was set and cooled, I sanded here and there and applied distress ink over the entire piece to give it a worn look.

I matted my photo with a lot of layers of cut-outs and ephemera and scraps, first lightly distressing and inking all of the edges to give everything some definition and dimension.

Time to embellish: I used most of the flowers that were left over, along with some fussy cut leaves, to embellish the “Charming” resin gear that I selected for my title.

As a last step, I added a few flowers and leaves to the upper corner to mimic the single leaf in the upper corner of the photo.

Rock Star!

This image of Mr. V. The Rock Star! that my daughter-in-law sent me obviously calls for a bit of grunge and lots of gears… The February kit from Tres Jolie was the perfect source for both.

*******************************************************************

I tore the 13 @rts Shades of Black paper into several pieces and layered them with alternate sides facing up and added scraps of the Countless Love sheet, along with a bit of 7 Gypsies packaging here and there before adhering my photo.

Next came the layers of gears along with a few brackets – all resin pieces from Prima. I added the Iron Fence sticker from 7 Gypsies (the source of that packaging) to one side.

I added a couple of feathers from the Dark Romance package of flowers to embellish the gears, then the silver trinket that I toned down with Metallique Wax.

To complete the grunge, I splattered my page with a few of the concentrated watercolors that were included in the Mixed Media kit.
