Moments

 

Me again, without the pigtails – I’ve graduated to the Tonette perms, my mother’s attempt to control my ever-messy hair. Next to me are my brother and sister. We’re sitting at the “kiddies’ table” – actually a smaller picnic table that my father made just for us! The photo is dated 1952, so I must have been 5; my brother would have been 3 and my sister would have been 4 years old.

Lots of tearing and layering here. I had planned on using more of the red gingham pattern to go with the picnic theme, but it looked much too busy. I ended up with using the centers of several sheets, thinking that the watercolor-like backgrounds and floral edges worked much better. The photo was matted with a couple of pieces of scraps after I distressed all of the edges.

The title piece is a Prima chipboard coated with gesso, then colored with a few of the new 49 & Market inks from Ranger using a water brush.

I added a few die cuts here, using foam dots to make them pop and called it done.
