Be Awesome

We had an awfully mild January here in my section of the Northeast, with some days in the 50s and even a few topping 60°. A few weekends ago, it was warm enough to take the kids to the park for some climbing and running around. My daughter-in-law captured Miss S. hopping over the rocks with the afternoon winter sun in the background.

The January 2020 kit from Très Jolie came with the Shabby Love Symphony collection from AB Studio, filled with delicate floral designs on the front and gorgeous images of textures on the back.

The “B” side of Sheet 5, entitled “Shabby Rocks” was a perfect fit for my photo, but a little too busy to be used as a stand-alone base. I decided to start with Sheet 4, “Pink Scents”, using the back image with the blues and grays and bits of bold details on the concrete wall image.

I tore a side-to-side strip of Sheet 5 and to lay over the base and decided that it looked “blah” and just too lacking in interest, so I went through the papers and selected the “B” side of Sheet 7, “Savor This Moment”, filled with a large print of flower petals that becomes more and more blurred and filled with tiny textures from top to bottom. I tore it in across the center and created another torn edge on the bottom. This was cut in half and attached to the base. Next, I tore one more strip of Sheet 5 and taped both pieces to the base.

I altered one of the Creative Embellishments chipboard pieces that came in the kit by coating it with Faded Jeans Distress Oxide ink and fastened it to the back of my photo. I added some packaging to the rest of the back to balance the thickness and attached it all to the page, ready to embellish.

I used an entire package of flowers (also from the kit) to form my cluster and I still wasn’t finished. I selected a variety of Mélange pebbles and inked the bottoms before scattering them here and there to fill in gaps and add some interest.

I selected a phrase from Sheet 6, tore the edges and inked it before placing it on the bottom of my photo.
