It's a Wonderful Life

I’ve been inspired by the wintry road and Christmas tree images in the December Mood Board from Tres Jolie to create this layout featuring a photo from four years ago.

And here is the Mood Board…

It’s all about the layering here, some obvious, some not so much, with a little bit of paper tearing thrown in. I selected the center image first: the bottom part of Treetops sheet, which I tore along the top and bottom. The Northpole sheet with the hint of trees and snow makes a perfect base.

After matting the photo with chipboard, I glued it to a frame from one of the cut-apart sheets. I selected two of the larger pieces from the Ephemera pack. I wanted the notes to show on the larger piece, so I ripped it down the side. I wasn’t pleased with the result, finding it too narrow. I began to glue it back together, not quite matching the edges so the tear would show. I did tear the print piece because I wanted as much of the print to appear above the photo. I played around with these pieces until I was satisfied with their placement and marked the spot.

I selected one of the images from the Rub-On package and added it to the spot where the print piece and the frame layer met. Next came a layer of trees from the cut-aparts, backed with a bit of chipboard for added dimension. (I cut a bit from the edge to created one more layer.)

I glued a long piece of chipboard to that torn strip of patterned paper, adhered it to my layout, then added the remaining layers. The title piece, again from the cut-aparts, was inked around the edges, glued to a scrap of chipboard, and placed on the photo.

I treated the pine cone chipboard pieces with clear gesso. Once it was set, I used a paintbrush to color them with Lindy’s Stamp Gang mists. I love how the glitter makes this cluster pop while blending in perfectly with the colors of the piece.

I finished by watering down some white gesso and using a fan brush to create splatters, adding to the snowy feel, and called it “done”.
