Sweet Autumn: A Mini Album

Kim packed the November Cards, Tags and More Kit from Très Jolie with some of the gorgeous Sound of Autumn collection by Ciao Bella, along with a selection of embellishments and such. I added a few things from my own stash to create a mini album.

No step-by-step here, just a walk through the various pages and details…

I used two layers of patterned paper to cover my chipboard base. Not only did this add some interest and dimension, but it allowed me to attach the ribbon tie toward the end of the process. (I always create the front cover last after the inside is complete to avoid all of the wear and tear that would occur.)

A shaker made from Creative Embellishments chipboard, sequins from Buttons Galore and a well-inked scrap of patterned paper. The sides were heat embossed with Stampendous embossing enamel. I inked the acorns with Distress Oxide ink, but they looked a little flat. A light coating of Metallique wax gave them a beautiful shine.

The kit contained some beautiful chipboard vines from Creative Embellishments. I cut them apart here and there and heat embossed them all with Lindy’s Stamp Gang embossing powder. I added a very light coating of Distress Ink to tone down the shine and give them a more vintage look.

The A4 Paper Pack was full of images and tags and more: a fussy cutter’s dream! I scattered some of the cut-out leaves around the front of the pocket on the left page. I trimmed the pockets on the right with a border-punched scrap and some of the pretty lace that came in the kit.
(More about some of the contents of the pockets later…)

A couple of images from the A4 Paper Pack are just the right size to create these fold-out pockets.

The fold-out opens to reveal another pocket trimmed with cut-out details and more of that beautiful pumpkin vine from Creative Embellishments.

On the right, there’s another pocket. (I’ll be going into a lot of detail about the journaling booklets that you see later on.)

I used a couple of very beautiful but busy papers for the next pages, so I needed to keep the added details simple.
I started with a tea-stained doily and placed a cut-out circle and a pretty sentiment in the center and finished it off with the rest of the Prima vine from the kit.
I do love making shakers! I added this one, using a scrap as the base to the front of a pocket full of tags and journaling pieces. The chipboard frame was painted with Prima Metallique acrylic – a perfect complement to the warm fall colors.

These papers were just too pretty to cover; I added a couple of pockets to hold tags that matched the patterns.

A couple of double pockets, trimmed with lace and cut-out leaves and filled with matching Autumn patterns…

The last two pages contain more pockets. I love the image on the front of the left pocket and just had to leave it unadorned. I simply used it as the top of a double layer.

I fussy cut this image from the Paper Collection Pack and trimmed it with the last of a vine that had been included in the October Très Jolie kit. It had been inked with Kaisercraft Forest – perfect for a summer page. I added a few Prima waxes to alter the leaves for autumn.

I think this is a perfect ending for my Sweet Autumn mini album: a cabin in the woods surrounded by the pretty falling leaves.

My good scrappy buddy Kathi told me about a wonderful source for yarns and trims: Fish Bay Elements. I used a few of the contents of the Autumn Sunset bundle to decorate the spine…

I wanted add a few words about some of the inserts. All of the tags, large and small, were made using the cut-outs from the A4 Paper Pack. They are beautiful on their own, but I did some additional embellishing and detailing here and there.

I selected the smaller sized tags and backed them with slightly larger scraps to make them thick enough to join with jump rings. I added some autumn-themed charms that I’ve had for while.

A few of the tags were designed to frame smaller images or maybe some journaling. I filled them with cut-out words; there are plenty of them (along with some stand-alone sentiments) included in the A4 Paper Pack.

I embellished this tag with some of the Prima leaves that came with the kit. I added a cut-out vine and topped it out with a sentiment.

There were a lot of small ATC-sized images to cut out. Rather than use them as layering pieces, I decided to cut them with the left border extended. I scored this and attached the folded strip to a piece of scrap cut to match the front. I created a half dozen or so of these to tuck into the pockets along with the tags.

Several of the cutouts were large enough to use as mini covers on their own. I folded them in half and added sheets of tea dyed copy paper, cut to size and inked around the edges to create two journaling books.
Before sewing the pages together (yes, I actually took out my sewing machine!), I stamped them here and there with Distress Ink and some of my older stamps.

A beautiful design – perfect for a cover!

There’s a ghost image of a doily there, created when I dyed my paper, simply by placing the doily on top before putting it in the oven.

One of the Prima leaves, inked to give it a more vintage look and a bit of Washi tape…

I love the way tea dying creates imperfections, making simple cheap copy paper look like something that has aged for decades and decades.

I used this page as a base to ink the leaf shown above, creating another kind of ghost image. I added one of the journaling sentiment cut-outs from the A4 Paper Pack.

I used Distress Ink with all of the stamps to create a softer image. I like how it bleeds into the other side of the paper to create a ghost image.

My second journaling book featured this wonderful doggie pattern on the cover.

This is one of my oldest stamp sets, a series of pumpkins from Heartfelt Creations.

Some washi tape, a cut-out sentiment and a scattering of leaves from the A4 Paper Pack are all that are needed to fill these pages.

I’ve used more of the washi tape to “hold” my stems in place.

Stamping in the corners gives me plenty of space to add some actual journaling when I choose.

The upper corner ripped when I cut the page to size. I decided to keep it, lending a further appearance of a vintage book.

A bit of drywall tape along with the washi kind; I have a large roll of it in my stash, purchased from one of those hardware mega-stores some years ago.

I finished with one more pumpkin stamp, a fitting addition to a mini album celebrating my favorite time of the year.
