My son and
daughter-in-law took the children to New York last March to visit the Museum of
Natural History. The boys weren’t too sure about the promise of “real
dinosaurs” because they know that dinosaurs lived a long time ago. Imagine
their delight to see that Daddy was telling the truth. And imagine their
amazement at the actual size of the reconstructed fossils…
Most of this
layout was created from the April 2019 Kit from Tres Jolie; a few bits and
things are from my stash…
Since I planned on stenciling my background, I
started by coating both sides of my base paper with matte medium and when
thoroughly dry, attaching it to a USPS box cut down to just under 12” x 12”.
Next, I
carefully tore my next sheet side to side in several pieces, ensuring that the
white core would be on top. These were glued to the base with a light
application of Aleen’s glue. (I like to use liquid adhesive rather than tape
whenever possible because it gives me a few seconds to make sure that
everything is exactly how and where I want it before it permanently sets.)
I used a
favorite stencil and crackle paste to create some background texture and set it
aside to dry.
Meanwhile, I
treated two chipboard columns with Nuvo mist and put it aside.
My photo was
backed with a thin piece of packaging to give it depth and stability. I created
a mat from a third sheet, backed that with another piece of packaging and glued
the two pieces together. This was attached to the layout with a thin strip of
glue applied side to side to leave room under the top and bottom.
I used a Tim
Holtz die from Sizzix and more of that third sheet and some burlap string from
my stash to create a few tags that I tucked under the photo.
I finished my
page with a few flowers and gears and a piece that I cut out from one of the
UPC strips.
