A Christmas Card Canvas

 

I’ve used the December Mixed Media Kit from Très Jolie (along with a few items from the main kit and a few more of my own) to create a piece of Christmas decor.

Along with a canvas board and a nice variety of mediums, the kit came with a Décor Mold from Prima and a package of clay; I used them to make two ornaments which I set aside to dry while I worked on another project.

I painted the canvas board with the Silver Sterling acrylic paint and set it aside to dry while I worked on the clay ornaments. The kit came with a beautiful red acrylic paint; I dug out a tube of Impasto paint that I’ve had for a while and gave each ornament a thorough coating. The paints are pretty thick, so I slightly watered them down as I went along. I used the Impasto to treat the entire set of Holly Flourishes that came in the main kit. I dug out a “Merry Christmas” chipboard from my stash and covered it in red.

By now the canvas board was dry. I covered the entire surface with snowflakes, using texture paste mixed with glitter and the stencil (also from the main kit).

I went back to the ornaments and chipboard pieces once they were dry and dry brushed them with the pigment powder: Brilliant Gold on the red ornament and title and Interference Green on the other pieces. The holly “berries” were created with a few dabs of Stickles.

Once all of the parts were ready, I began to assemble my “Christmas Card”, using matte gel medium to glue the pieces down. I finished by adding a few lengths of gold cord and gluing a bow to the top of each ornament.
