The Two of Us

 

The “Two of Us” in the photo are my Aunt Bernie and my Mother in the winter of 1944-45. My mother would have been 27 years old; Aunt Bernie would have been 17. Although they were 10 years apart in age, they were very close throughout their lives, calling each other daily, sharing gossip and secrets and everyday goings on.

I’ve used the December kit from Très Jolie to scrap my story; the papers and embellishments are a perfect match for this image.

I began by creating a flourish with one of my favorite stencils and the Nuvo Mousse. The mousse itself is a little “wet” and I took advantage of that by allowing it to run under the edges. When the mousse was dry, I placed the stencil over the image and went over it with Oxide Distress ink.

I treated the chipboard piece the same way, first rubbing the mousse into the chipboard and going over it here and there with the ink so that the coral color would come through.

I used the same ink to edge my photo and paper layers.

The rest of my layout came together very quickly. I wanted to create a few layers to mat the photo and grabbed a torn piece left over from my last layout. As I was playing around with more of the scraps, I spied a punch that I had used to create my last project and still had to put away. I used it down one edge of the paper and cut it into two pieces, overlapping one over the other.

I cut a couple of inches off the bottom of the Prima vine so it would fit, reserving the bottom for another project. I added a flower from the Graphic 45 package after edging the petals with Stickles to give it a touch of glitter.

I printed out my title and matted it with a scrap. I needed a few moments of thought before adding an icicle strip under the photo and placing the title in between.
